Any distro that includes one of the following DE/WMs would be appropriate;
KDE (any version) Gnome 2.X XFCE LXDE You may be able to switch to one of the above (except Gnome, maybe) while still using Mint. Software like Visual Basic; Gambas http://gambas.sourceforge.net Making a new distro; http://maketecheasier.com/6-tools-to...tro/2010/04/08 |
I am not sure if anything in this list would be useful to you. But here it is anyways.
http://alternativeto.net/software/vi...platform=linux As far as what distro to use. I agree with JaseP's above list. If you want something more specific then you could try Lubuntu or Xubuntu. Both are based on Ubuntu with XFCE4 or LXDE. There is also Kubuntu with the latest KDE. Of course Ubuntu is based on Debian. So when you get more familiar with it all you could do a basic install of Debian, enough to get you to the command line, basic tools and connected to the internet. Then you can take it from there and install only what you want from the ground up. |
