Hi all total Linux noob here :-) I want to learn do, Sick of m$

Great to be here. Got the link from another site said II would join as I def will need help with my linuxing if that's a word heh.

K my main goals for wanting to use Linux outside of Microsoft and it bloatware OS. I wanna try something new and Linux seems too be d in thing :-)also I am mad to get FRODO XBMC Working on Linux but cant, I have used wubi to try a few dif flavors of Ubuntu but when I update as the guide says FRDO just comes on to the start screen and the turns off straight away, Anyone know why this is? I am using a dell dimension 2400 at the moment until my build is finished, when that will be? God knows! I have 2GBs of RAM so im ok there my CPU is crap its a Intel Celeron, 2600 MHz (26 x 100)so im waiting on a new CPU gonna order this week, Im gonna get a P4 3.06GHz I think it is or higher if I can there dirt cheap.

Also I cant boot from a USB it has to be a CD and I cant use a DVD because the stupid old PC only has a CD drive... I have a external DVD drive but that wont show up to boot from no matter wht I do, So I am stuck to Linux distros that will fit a CD :-(

I Hope that was not too much for one thread?? :-) I'm sure I will be making more and reading as much as I can!!

All help no matter how small or big will I will be ever so grateful for, Thanks :-)

Hi L0dgik83 welcome to the LinuxQuestions forums. I have been asking questions here for a while and the community seems to be nice when it comes to help other members.

As you might have already noticed, English is not my primary lenguage there fore I had a bit of trouble reading your post I would suggest to try to spell out the words as best as you can. That will prompt quicker responses perhaps.
So for what I understand you want some suggestions on Linux Base OS for your computer?

Perhaps what you can do is download and install a distro that is light weight so you can use the power and resources of your computer to do actual calculations instead of moving heavy graphic

I would probably suggest Xubuntu for a friendly distro here is their links http://xubuntu.org/
and Lubuntu here is their link http://lubuntu.net/
Download the ISO image and burn it to a CD Each file should fit just fine in a 700 MB CD

Also you can do a minimal installation of Debian and built up the OS whith apps that you like here is their link http://www.debian.org/

Good luck to you
