Help with Wine in opensuse 10.2

Hi I am new to linux and am wondering how I can run and setup programs in Opensuse 10.2

I need to install wine, vmware or qemu to run windows software.

what is the process for doing this. while reading the .txt file is says to input a certain command line. i tried typing it into the terminal. all i got was no such file etc. it was not working.

What can I do. When I have found out the process to install programs into linux I will then be able to get my wireless running and access the net from there. instead of using xp then taking out that drive and putting the suse one in. all the time.

Any such help would be appreciated.

Actually you don't need Wine to get your wireless working. That's a separate issue and Wine isn't going to help that. You should use the search function on this site to find out all you need to know to get your wireless working.

As for Wine, use the package manager to install it. Regarding your question, you say the .txt file tells you to enter a 'certain command' but you fail to mention exactly what you're talking about. Details are needed if you want any help.

re the wirless

Here is one of the files that came with the wireless for suse. tried to type the commands into the terminal. ?????? like in the build section below. I copy it into the terminal and nothing???

(i tried the same for suses wine, wmware, qemu files. I wish that there was a corse here in new Zealand that could teach people the linux basics. there are lots of computer courses for xp and xp software, even Mac, but not for linux. Maby there are online based ones ??? not sure).

Ps I find it easier to actually use windows xp as i can click on the .exe or auto run files and run programs first time without having to read all the .txt files that come with programs or have to find the file on the net this can take ages. . If i can get that working then I can start using Suse and make the move away from xp. untill then my best bet is xp. ???

so this is my problem and I need to know the fastest / easiest way to install programs. so as to save time.

If you can help that would be good.

Thanks Mickeyj4j

Look just to say I was having trouble with my internet connection at the moment so that is why there is so many repeats of each post. sorry bout that. not really sure what went wrong ?????????

Mickeyj4j 12-10-2007 06:28 AM

I do know that there are differences between xp and linux. so I need to keep looking around here & find out as much info as I can, then I will be able to get my head around linux.

over all I will have to be patient and look into this more.

masonm 12-10-2007 10:08 AM

OK, posting the entire file is of no help at all because it doesn't tell me what YOU put in the terminal, what steps YOU took, what error or other messages YOU received, nothing.

If you seriously want help, you need to provide the exact steps you are taking, what it is you want to accomplish, and what error messages you see in the terminal. We can help you but you need to give specific information about what YOU are doing and seeing.

Mickeyj4j 12-11-2007 04:34 AM

Thanks I will eventually take out my XP drive and Put in my other drive with Suse, when I have the time, and let you know what exactly is happening.
