Help with VNC and PuTTY
Hi,
I am relatively new to linux and have a redhat 9 box with the VNC viewer installed. I have started the server by typing VNCserver and it gave a response of 'X' desktop is ww_.mydomainname.___:1 (can't type the real url as per post limitations). I started putty on my windows xp machine and have tried to follow some of the SSH tutorials but none I have found specifically use putty as an example. I can login to the command line just fine and get root up and running but when I start the VNCviewer I get a Failed to connect to server. I have also read something about setting the KDE up for Desktop sharing but don't know how to do this and/ or if this is also necessary. A step by step would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks bobk |
Let me understand what you're trying to do. You have VNC server running on your Redhat 9 box and want to view it from your Win machine? Correct?

Yes. THat is exactly what I want to do.

I guess u r trying to use VNC over ssh. Its the more secure way than using normal unencrypted VNC connection.
