Help with Ubuntu

I just downloaded the Ubuntu 64-bit desktop version to a cd and to a usb. When i go to the boot menu and have it boot on either one it either goes to the black screen with a white _ blinking, or it starts shooting out a ton of script and stopping when it gets to "NET: Registered protocol family 1"

Did you run the live cd on the computer in question? Did you install to usb whilst running the live cd?

If Ubuntu runs ok from the live cd then you may have a bad usb flash drive install.

If you are trying to run the usb flash on another computer you may still have a bad install or the computer does not like ubuntu 64. You might want to try the 32 bit version in this case.

In short, we need a lot more info to help you out.

yeah. there could be the thing your computer doesn't support 64 bit software. get 32 bit version.
also, if you know your computer is 64 bit, then check the md5 sum of the iso file of ubuntu you just downloaded.or download it again from windows with free download manager and in the integrity options put the md5sum there.
