Help with Samba Domain controller

Hello everyone,

My Name is Sally.

I have an issue and maybe one of you guys can help me out

I have installed Samba on a centos machine.
I made Samba into my pdc. The PDC name is PDC1
Every thing was running fine for months then all of a sudden
I can not ping the PDC anymore or add new accounts to the network because
PDC1 can not be found anymore

I have windows XP machines on the network and had no problems
adding them to the PDC. I used PDC1 as the domain name to connect to

Now ....none of the machine can ping PDC1 anymore.
Where can I start to look for this issue and anyone have any suggestions
on how to fix this.

Thank you Boys

Sally

First step would be to see if PDC1 has a functioning network connection. Can you ping anything from PDC1?

Ping is a TCP/IP function, so it sounds like a basic network issue. Maybe someone tripped over the Ethernet cable?

hey sally,

1. Check DNS can resolve it:
dig pdc1
or
nslookup pdc1

Also, try it by FQDN, dig pdc1.somedomain.com

If you can't resolve it, check that the DNS server you use is running and reachable via IP (using ping)

If DNS is working, make sure that your machines are pointing to the proper DNS server and the the proper search path is being appended to requests (ie, somedomain.com)

Let me know what you get from trying some of that
