Help with OpenOffice 1.0.1 installation please! Before I give up on Linux.
I'm about to throw the computer out of the friken window and kneel before Bill Gates and his mighty Microsoft empire. I have just spent bloody AGES trying to install OpenOffice correctly only to find out that after I've installed it and restarted its still 1.0.2!!!!! :confused: :rolleyes: :mad: :( . Needless to say I'm a might peeved about this. PLEASE HELP before I give up with RedHat.

ok so you've got the newer version and want the older version rite?
how are you trying or install rpm's or tarball |
Hang on - you're UPgrading from 1.0.2 to 1.0.1?
Could that be the problem? |
Im, try to install this (http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmp...c_cmp/15201209) version in place of the one that came with RedHat 9.

how are you trying to install ?? From a tarball? be4 you get to the make install look over where OO is in your distribution and see where the tarball has it going be sure that it will replace the others exactly RH's path may be different from the way the path in the tarball is set up |
I installed it just now. I installed to /usr/lib (this is where 1.0.2 resides). It created a new directory for it. I then had to manually edit the menu so that it pointed to the new directory in my home directory.
It is a very awkward install, but does now work. |

Yeah - I followed the instructions as well.
I run KDE, so I right click on the 'start' button and select menu editor. I then found the entries for OpenOffice and removed them. Then I added a single entry for ~/Openoffice.org/soffice. This opens a blank window and you can then select the app from there. I was a bit annoyed with the install. It's not intuitive and it leaves the previous version still there. Oh well, I left my comments on the registration survey and hopefully something will be done. |
