HELP!!!! With Internet Connection

I have a gigabyte GA-P35C-DS3R motherboard. I have installed Kubuntu 7.04 on my harddrive and the internet connection wont connect when i boot kubuntu. When i look at the gigabyte website and find my motherboard, it says to download the linux driver for my chipset from the chipset's site, but when i find my chipset, a Intel P35 Express, it doesn't give me an option to download any linux drivers. Can someone help me please????

First how are we trying to connect, DSL, network, with modem, router?

linuxnoob0075 10-17-2007 10:31 PM

sry...um...its a cable LAN connection

jay73 10-17-2007 10:44 PM

OK, let's see. You have an intel chipset but more likely than not you need a driver from another manufacturer. Run lspci and find out who is the manufacturer of the lan controller.

linuxnoob0075 10-17-2007 11:21 PM

um....where do i run it...in windows or kubunutu terminal?

ehawk 10-17-2007 11:36 PM

I wouldn't think you will need any drivers for your ethernet controller. Here's an easy setup guide to get you started. http://www.kubuntu.org/docs/kquickguide/C/ch02s06.html

jay73 10-18-2007 11:48 PM

Weird, I have the very same one, REALTEK 8111/8168. It has been supported on all distributions that I have tried for the last half year or so. Then again, I've never been a KDE fan so I never tried Kubuntu. It works fine with a recent Ubuntu, though. And with Fedora, Debian, Suse, Sabayon, CentOS, Mepis, Mandriva, BSD, Solaris ...

If you really can't get it working, consider switching to a different distro or installing the driver yourself. Visit REALTEK and download the proper driver (REALTEK 8111) and make sure to get the latest one available (the earlier versions were rather buggy). The zipped file should contain instructions on installing.

linuxnoob0075 10-21-2007 04:35 PM

thanks i haven't tried it yet but i think this will work
maybe
you think?

jay73 10-21-2007 07:06 PM

It should, I have the same NIC and it worked for me back in the days when this NIC wasn't supported by any distro yet.

Bear in mind that installing the driver alone won't give you any network. After installing you still need to configure a few things (System > Admin > Network on a Gnome system).

linuxnoob0075 10-22-2007 08:43 AM

um...im having a little trouble installing it
can someone gove me a step by step instructions to install the driver???

jay73 10-22-2007 11:27 AM

I have answered that question several times in the past, in great detail so I'm don't feel like repeating myself. Have a look at this:
