help with downloading
 

firts of all i dont have linux but want it.
-where can i get it?
-how can i get it onto a different computer?
-i DO NOT want it on the computer in which i would download it from.

Check out distrowatch.com They have a great selection of distributions to choose from. Download the distribution that you want, burn it to a cd or dvd, and then install it on the other machine.

Go to https://shipit.ubuntu.com/ and request a cd. They will send you one for free. Try and/or install from the live cd that they send you.

You download the iso file and burn it to CD. It ain't rocket science.

Yes. Download the file (will end in .iso), burn it as an iso (not as a simple data/media cd) and then slip the cd into your other computer (make sure that this computer is set to boot from cd instead of hard drive).

Check the md5sums as well. I have a tutorial here that may help you.

i downloaded unbuntu to a disk. i put it in my other computer and it didnt do anything. i tried to open it and it said it isnt supported or something

Did you copy the .iso to the CD or did you burn the .iso to CD? Big difference. Also do you have the BIOS set to boot from the optical drive? Burn the .iso to disk, not copy it to disk. When you are done you should see many folders and files on the CD. If you only see one big .iso on the CD then all you did was copy it.
If you don't know what I am talking about then do a search for burning .iso to disk. Then set your machine to boot from CDROM or whatever the optical drive is. Then put in the install CD, turn on the machine and follow directions.

You don't install Linux from within windows. You need to boot from the Linux CD.

burning an iso is easily done using nero or other burning software under windows, nero has a wizard that would help you do it properly ubuntu is a good starting point in my experience (which b.t.w. isn't much) oh, also set it to burn the cd as slow as you can, fast speeds tend to make bad discs which is particularly bad when installing a new o.s.
