cutecom/minicom usb to serial problems

Any cutecom/minicom guru's out there? Well I have been able to get cutecom [0.13.1] working on my box, well not completely. The problem is that whether I am in a modem, router, or any other piece of hardware I am getting nothing but an infinite scroll of "b1" that never stops. I have verified the parity and handshaking settings and they are correct. The kernel is probing and auto detecting the usbserial module and assigning it ttyUSB0 without any problems. I am always using hyperterminal in windows, against my will, and everything has worked fine. It has been sometime now and other posts have been very helpful in getting me this far so I thought I would throw this out there and see if anybody wants to take a shot. One possibility is that I am using a USB HUB off of my laptop that has a serial-to-usb converter coming off of it [laptop USB port -> USB HUB -> serial2USB converter -> console cable -> equipment]. This problem is occurring in both minicom and cutecom so it is probably converter related, or not (if I had the answers I wouldn't be asking the questions, right). Well I will be more than happy to post any additional information that is requested as well as perform any tasks required to get this thing working! Here is the information in regard to my box!
