Help with audio restricted formats in ubuntu 10


I have just installed ubuntu 10.04. How do I install encoders for window audio media files? I had them installed on 9.04 but that was over a year ago. I seem to have forgoten.*

This will install lots of yummy codecs:

Thanks! I remember that code. Like I said, it's been a long time. For the most part I was amazed how easily everything worked out the box. Now if I can only get iTunes istalled for my iPhone.

GEE! This did not work! This is the message I got in the terminal:

ubuntu-restricted-extras is already the newest version.
0 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 365 not upgraded.

When I try to import a music folder in rythmbox I get the search for suitable plugins window. After the search it says I need the Windows Media Audio 8 decoder. Any other suggestions?

Not to be too picky, but you are using an Alpha of an operating system. One would suggest if you want normal functionality that this might
not be the best place to try. One would also assume that not everything is flying in this version just yet.

I only mention as, and you would probably agree, when the system is fully operational it detects most of what you are requesting without issue.

Edit: So just looked at main site and see it is now Beta, but still maintain this may still have issues.

Very true. Im just playing with the os on another hard drive and taking it for a test drive and prepping myself for the full release.
