Help using configure; make; make install
Good Day
maybe this is EZ for other people But I cant seem to Understand how to run this :) Ok so I want to install a new terminal emu so now i have the folder and it is unziped back dont know how to install it , looked on the internet for the command line that did not help Looked under synaptic and still no luck can any one please tell me what are the steps to install any thing using this command configure; make; make install many thanks |
First you should check if the program you want to install is available as a binary package in the repository of the distro you're using.
If it's not and you need to compile the program, it's a good idea to read the README and INSTALL files that are inside the tarball you extracted, since some sources need to be compiled slightly differently. In any case, the general procedure after you extract the tarball is to use cd to enter into the extracted directory and then run the commands you posted above, one at a time: Code:
./configure |
Thank U for the reply
I am very interested in installing this terminal EMU Called terminolog so I went to the website and I installed it , But I could be wrong But it says U need these software to go with it , so I install the EFL 1.11.1 as they recommanded on the left side So now i have the EFL but dont know how to install :( Can u also please tell me what should I put after the ./configure ?? do I put the File name or folder name ?? I am using Linux Mint 17 and here is the site I am on https://www.enlightenment.org/p.php?p=download&l=en many thanks |

Hi linuxmarble
Since you are using ubuntu or any other derivative of it. You can install terminology with these instructions from this site http://www.webupd8.org/2013/04/termi...-emulator.html Terminology is a ppa program which you need to add to your repos |

If you follow the first method, you will need the gcc. You can install it with apt-get or aptitude.
|
It seems like the ppa from this developer isn't available for some unknown reason.
I did another google search and it seems the ppa for terminology is depended on the version of ubuntu you have. Here is another link ( for ubuntu 14.04 ) http://askubuntu.com/questions/50872...n-ubuntu-14-04 In that article, this will install the latest version of terminology for ubuntu 14.04. It also mentions if you want the stable version of terminology you'll need an earlier version of ubuntu and you would replace ppa:enlightenment-git/ppa with ppa:efl/trunk ( use this ppa for ubuntu before 14.04 ) |
