help this frustrated n00b

I all I’m pretty new to Linux so this is a question I’m hoping you will be able to answer here.

I have asked this question on the OCC forums and since they aren’t a dedicated Linux forum I didn’t get much help.

Basically I am after the following things from a Linux distro
  • Ease of use
  • IS NOT UBUNTU or KUBUNTU
  • ease of installing packages
  • user friendly
  • can use beryl (I love that cube effect)

Now the reason I don’t like ubuntu or kbuntu I don’t know I just feel oppressed by it for some strange reason.

I have tried downloading fedora 7 via http and bit torrent but I always get the broken medium error so if anyone knows a way round this that is free I’m all ears

So any ideas which distros fit the bill
Thanks for your time

Mandriva( Mandrake )? I think it has some kind of easy package management.

BTW What's wrong with (k)Ubuntu? :-)

Try OpenSuse 10.2
Install is sweet, YAST is pretty user friendly.....

Have you been able to check the md5sum of your downloads? If they match properly, chances are good your download image was successful. You probably have something wrong with your burner or burning software.
