HELP - Suse 7.2 - AMD
 

Dear all,

I have just got an Atlon Xp 1900+ and I am having problems. After lilo gets written to floppy disk, the system hangs. SO I rebooted and lilo gets loaded. The setup continues with YAST2, but then the system hung (yast 2 interface with a green screen).


ANy ideas - could it be that am using a 2.4.4 kernal from Suse which had problms on AMD chipsets???

My system does not crash in XP and so dont think it is hardware related.

are you using the graphical installer or the text based installer. I would start using the text based installer and use the key combination alt+f2 upon reboot to boot to the text based screen. Yast likes to reboot to the graphical installer by default, but you can force it to text mode using the key combo so you can finish the install. If you do not get your xserver fine tuned by the end of the installation you can run Sax from the root command line to configure your xserver.

Hit, when the installer shows; any key; the progress bar
stops. You 'll see a boot options: linux | down in the screen
type right after it; mem=nopentium and then enter
If this works, make sure this options gets in your
/etc/lilo.conf
I know there are more options like noapic etc, better do
a search on that, or read the bootprompt howto.
This mem=nopentium is a workaround for some amd related
problems, i had to put it in for Nvidia to work with OpenGL.
