thanks for the tip ludeking,
after i typed "mount -t ntfs /de/hde1 /mnt/xp" iget the following message
"fs type ntfs not supported by kernel"
is there anything to fix this??

hmm, I'm not too cluey on kernel specifics, maybe you need a patch, or to compile your kernel with the ntfs option turned on, or to update your kernel.
What version kernel do you have?
type "uname -r" in a console.

Anyone else got any answers about the filesystem not being supported?

check that site.. there is everything u need to mount ur winxp ntfs partition pretty good explained.
again... im running redhat 9 too.. in that site i posted before is the patch ur kernel need to support ntfs... check what kernell u have... dload the rpm for that version of kernel and follow the very good explained steps in the page.. it goes form download help to finally mounting.
