Hey i am a complete newbie to linux so please if u could explain in details.....

I just installed limewire i installed it to usr/local/limewire it gave me a link in my root directoy
it wont work with the terminal or runprogram. is there a file i could edit to make it when i type limewire in the terminal run the program which is in /usr/local/limewire/Limewire

that and what about changing the commands of other programs like xine to xi

You can do this by using the ability to "ailias" commands. Just edit your .bash_profile that is in your HOME directory, here is the format -

alias owndir='find -type d -exec chmod -v 0755 {} \;'
alias ownfiles='find -type f -exec chmod -v 0644 {} \;'
alias m='mc -b'
alias pss='ps -A u'
alias fingerprint='metaflac --show-md5sum'
alias sbecheck='shntool len'

so for your limewire command your alias that you add would be this -

alias limewire='/usr/local/limewire/Limewire'

xine would be -

alias xi='xine'

You can add as many of these as you want to your profile, or bashrc file. Just keep it in that format.

ok i looked in my root which is my home directory and couldnt find .bashrc or .bash_profile but i did an emacs in the terminal and got this

now how would i edit these files to be able to add an alias and remove them. like to add xi for xine and how to remove it. same for limewire.
