Help! rescue deleted config file

i incautiously deleted the original content in /etc/modules.conf cause now i can't get internet/network, and sometimes system hangs. is there any way to recover the original file? thanks!

If you're using ext2 there's recovery tools
out there ...

If you didn't make too many changes,
use your installation CD's and copy the
one that came with your distro.

If you're very proficient with linux, go
init 1, unmount the drive and search
the raw-device with grep looking for
known content of the file :} ...

a config file can be found in RH CD? i thought the config file should not be the default file that runs on any machine? and.... what is a ext2 please? a software? sorry for that since i m a extremely newbie.
