I am not certain if NIS comes as a rpm package for you too remove...If you installed it by mistake and have not tried to configure it...I think you will be safe. You might want too disable the NFS service to be extra sure. As root:

type: chkconfig NFS stop

This is will stop the NFS service from running in run level 5 and 3.

I hope others will add to this...I don't want to miss lead you.

I wanted to add every Linux distro comes configured with NIS..During the install it was asking if you had a NIS server running so that it could recieve its ip address and etc..etc..

You are ok.

I think this will do the trick. I am away from my box so I won't be able to check until tomorrow. Thanks for the INfo.

to stop NIS server you need to issue
/etc/rc.d/init.d/ypserv stop
Then you can remove the package(s)
