Yo the advise given was correct, however since your a newbie duffmckagan should have mentnioned you need to open a terminal to do this.Open terminal
type dpkg --configure -a . Hope this helps. What distro are you running?

I am also a new user running ubuntu 8.10. But when I typed it in terminal it says it says
" requested operation requires superuser privilege"

tell me how to change my user into superuser

P.S I am the only user in os

Type "sudo" before the command; It will prompt you for your password; Enter your password and you will have superuser privileges.
