help on /tmp filesystem

hello
i'm in a lan using redhat linux 9.0 my problem is if i keep any file creating a directory in /tmp it gets deleted after some days. can i stop this automatic deletion of files? i'm not root.

another query: is there any process to lock a folder in linux (i mean to password protect it)? here i'm using a public pc (that is, other people also use this pcs and they have the same username and password) so i'm badly in need of protecting my files

plese reply.

thanks

/tmp means temporary, it's what this directory was created for, it is nessesary for the proper work of a system. If you needs to store files permanently - use /var directory.
