Help on increasing the Screen Resolution
 

Hey guys!

I've just downloaded my ubuntu and it is abosolutely amazing!

However, there is one problem that is driving me crazy: screen resolution. I want it to 1200x800(or something that is correct for my screen) but there is no slot for it in screen resolution, there are 800x600 and below.
I've spent almost a day figuring this out. And I see that this is a very common problem. I looked it up in this forum, that forum, those forum and I've tried xorg editing, terminal: xserver.xorg reconfigure.

Im a big newbie and I just downloaded it like 3 hours ago. Please give me a step by step guide through. For exampledon't just leave me a code cuz I have no idea what to do with those.

To start with open a terminal/console window and type the following command and paste the output here in the forum.
We need to know what graphics card you have so we can provide the proper directions, this command will provide the info we need to start..

lspci

Simple enough it should produce a list of your basic system hardware. (Motherboard chipset, video, sound, etc.. )

Currently im not on my computer and using my phone so I will name my graphic card.
Do I just need to find out what my graphic card is? Or do I need to know what my motherboard chip and etcs are, if then, how would I find it

The graphics card should be sufficient, certain card from the same manufacturer requier different drivers(i.e. nvidia Geforce 2 vs Geforce 8200). If you know exactly what card you have, then it should be enough.

The output of lspci would confirm the card and model. teh rest ofthe information I mentioned would be incidentally provided with the output of lspci but shouldn't be required to address your issue.
