Hi
I am in 3 year software engineering and a friend jsut gave me alinux red hat computer to learn more how to use linux and upgrade my curriculum

The first thing is that I have an windows xp and the red hat linux computer in teh same room. I have wireless internet in my windows xp computer

I was wodnering if there is any way i can get internet in my linux computer using a cross over cable from my windows computer to my linux computer having only with windows xp wireless conected to the internet router....if yes could you give me intructions of how to acomplsih that

if not, is there any way for these two computers to share files using a crossover cable....I tried the 192.168.0.? and a subnet mask and they conenct however i do not know what do do fromt ehre to see the shared files....

I am very familiar witht eh windows command prompt, not so witht he linux shell

ps. The more detailed intruction the better, im basically new with linux( but womewhat familiar to unix)

Hi,

I take from your story that each computer can ping the other computer. That's good.

Now, create a share in windows and make sure that the firewall accepts file & printer sharing connections. Then, using konqueror type smb://username@192.168.0.??/ in the addressbar.

Then you should be able to access the shared folder.

For internetconnectivity, you can set Windows to act as a router. I believe you have to make a "network bridge".

Because the router is too far away from my room.....

yes they ping each other.....
