Help Needed with WiFi Setup

Hey everyone, just wanted to say I appreciate any and all help beforehand and here we go.
I've recently changed my os to ubuntu 12.10 ( I believe) and I'm trying to setup my CP to where I can use Wifi (having to use an ethernet cable at this point)

I'm also very new and knowing that there is information that you would need to help me, if you could give me the process and steps to find that information I will post it quick, fast, and in a hurry.

As far as what I know right now, my pull down bar for my connections has wireless network locked out and "wireless is disabled by hardware switch" right under it.

Im not sure if I need the drivers, how to get them, or how to use them, any and all help is appreciated, also- if you could dumb it down for me then that would be very helpful as well- Cheers!

The message is indicating the switch needs to be turned on. I know my Lenovo laptop has an actual switch on the front and I can turn wireless on or off. Have you tried turning the switch on?

On some machines the wireless "hardware switch" is more of a firmware switch controlled by a key combination, usually the blue Fn + some key.

Are you referring to the 'fn F3' combo for wirless? wow.. well if this reply actually posts I guess that will be the answer.

You guys are awesome. I have looked at that probably a hundred times as it says its my bluetooth function, apparently it controls my wireless networks as well (maybe thats common sense?) I appreciate you guys, as I think that actually just fixed my problem.

I would recommend to mark this thread as solved (using the thread tools above the first post) and open a new thread regarding your video issue. If you do so please provide more information, like the videochip in your laptop and if you have installed proprietary drivers (if possible).

You have to pass through this device (assuming it is USB) to the VM, how you do that can be found in the Virtualbox manual.
If it is a PCI device you have to use Backtrack natively, not in a VM.
