Help needed with basics
Hi guys, this is vedaprasad i was working as Linux sys admin for 2 months and now planning to take up RHCE.its been around 3-4 months since i have worked on linux so lost touch with the basics... i started off with michel jang book .but that book dosent cover the basics.can someone recommend some good books to brush up the basics.so i can start off again with jang
Thanks in advance |
i started right from nowhere and in two months i already got my all servers up and well-configured. just by reading manuals and docs.
I learned the basics by working with linux. 3-4 months is quite a long time: enough to get into basics several times :) and don't think you can't do the same. a --help option, manpages and a bit of googling: that's a key to the magic of linux. |
Hi,
Welcome to LQ! Just a few links to aid you; Linux Documentation Project Rute Tutorial & Exposition Linux Command Guide Utimate Linux Newbie Guide LinuxSelfHelp Getting Started with Linux Advanced Bash-Scripting Guide Linux Home Networking :hattip: The above links and others can be found at 'Slackware-Links'. More than just SlackwareŽ links! |
I agree with Web31337, man pages and google are your best friend. If you don't know (I learned today :) ) Google.com/linux will give linux specific searches and may help with your searches. Books are good to keep on hand, but trial and error are your best sources for knowledge. Set up a box at your house and start playing with it. Set up everything, DNS, proxy, dhcp, web server, ssh, ftp, user accounts etc. I found that just a good all around book was best. I bought this a couple of years ago and it is a good reference although there may be an updated version now.

http://www.redhat.com/docs/en-US/Red...loyment_Guide/ will be useful.
The links from onebuck pretty much cover the basics. |
There's one more invaluable source of linux information: linuxquestions.org:)
