help needed installing RH9 on NTFS
 

hi i have installed RH9 fine before on a fat32 partition drive on a laptop but we have a new pc with 2 drives one with windows and the other (will have) redhat 9 on but they are NTFS and RH doesnt like it, what settings do i need to change to make it work, i.e. how do i set it up in disk druid? i have 4 gig of ram and i was going to have / on ext3, /boot on ext 2 (100meg), and swap x4 on 1000 meg, and /var or some amount but i tried that and in the middle of the install (half way through disk 2) it crashed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Dude chill out. If I had 4GIG of ram I wouldn't set up swap at all.
Secondly, create simply separate partition ( and not with Disk Druid but with Partition Magic or cfdisk) and format it as ext3 and install RH there. But sincerely saying I advice you to install some other system, Slackware for example.

erm.. no you haven't, it's not possible... besides from some distros like mandrake which can install inside a single file...

so would i just setup / on ext3 and thats it?, no /boot, /var etc.? also dont i have to use disc druid as it comes with RH9 and is in the installation program?

Last I check. Linux can read and write to FAT16 and in some cases FAT32 but as far as NTFS... it can read fine but writing to it like you would need to to install Linux on a NTFS partition is still under development and risky. Best bet is to delete the NTFS partition on the non-windows drive and use a native Linux format. Red Hat shouldn't have any problem with doing that and writing LILO or GRUB to the first drive's boot sector.
