help needed
fellows i have redhat 9 on my box with kernel(Shrike). it dont recognize USB drive. my friend has the same flavour of linux but his system allow to access it.
he has an old USB drive but mine is a bit newer one.
when ever i give a mount command it gives an error say no block device of the sepecified name exsist. i have used sda1,sdb1,sdc1,sdd1 but it wont work on any of them.
i write command as
mount /dev/sda1 /mnt/flash

i have a flash directory on my mnt
plz help me out. its a bit urgent.

Right after you plug the device in, do "dmesg | tail -15" and see if there are any lines about the device being recognized. if it is, and you have the usb-storage module loaded into your kernel (check lsmod) then a fdisk -l of whatever device it is should tell you what partitions there are (if any). If you can't make sense of it, post the results of the dmesg, lsmod, and fdisk commands here.

Oh, three things:

1) Red Hat 9 has kernel 2.4.20-8 by default.
2) Red Hat 9 is also getting long in the tooth. You should consider upgrading to a recent Fedora Core release. Hardware support will be better.
3) Please use more descriptive titles. "Help needed" doesn't tell anyone what your post is actually about.
