More info...I was trying to install KDE 2.2...other people have had this problem after installing, and there is a solution out there somewhere but I can't find it. I was using rpm's with the --force and --nodeps tags. Please help.

more infoo...someone help plz

After I installed Kde2.2, I get dcopserver errors saying that it isn't running. It also says "could not read network connection list ./root/DCOPserver_myhostname.net:_0" I searched for that file and it doesn't exist. When I try to start dcopserver manually, I get "aborting. $DISPLAY not set" Help??????

when Kde exists after the error, I see Xlib: extension "RENDER" missing on display ":0.0"
Could not register with DCOPServer. Aborting.

How do I fix this!?

Have you been able to get it to work? I have the same problem after I tried to setup my machine on nis (yellow pages). Any user on nis that tryies to log in gets this problem. The local accounts (like root) does not have this problem.

Thanks,
Darrick

Wink

Hi How did you go with this.
I had the same problem just today seems looking through the internet a lot of people have had this issue.

I fixed mine by checking .xsession-errors in my home dir
it stated that it could not find libfam.

I searched for fam on rpmfind at rpmfind.net Downloaded and installed the fam-2.6.4-ximian.1.i386.rpm logged in again and it all worked!

Hope this helps.
