help!! my mouse is gone

hi, I am new to Linux and I am using Red Hat 9. One time, I crashed mplayer and there was an error message saying that there was something wrong with the module. I cannot remember exactly. So, I ignored it because I thought the worst that could happen was reinstalling mplayer. However, when I restart the computer, it did not recognize the mouse anymore. My mouse is a USB optical mouse. Its red light is still on until RH "check module dependencies" during start up.
I don't really know how to troubleshoot this.
Any help would be great. Thanks.

I'd start by running mouseconfig. If that doesn't help look in the /var/log/messages file for error messages during startup.

Actually, it just started working after a while. However, this all ready happened to me many times before this. Linux did not recognize my mouse. And I had to restart it several times before the mouse started working. So, can any one think of a reason for that?

I've seen something similar, but it was with SuSE 8.0. Because of a problem with how they loaded the drivers the USB mouse would intermittently fail after a reboot. Here's the url for the SuSE writeup:

http://sdb.suse.de/en/sdb/html/wessels_usbmouse80.html

Even if it's not the same problem it may give you some usefull tips.
