Help! monitor difficulties

I have installed redhat 9 on my computer. i installed it in text mode and when it gets to the first boot stage my monitor switches off. i have set my gpu (fx 5200) to the correct settings and i have set my monitor to 640x480 but it doesnt work.

if any thing could someone tell me how to change the monitors config file, without uninstallation.

well you could try to re-run the X Configurator and manually put in the settings for you monitor (ex. H and V frequencies) and also manually set the gfx card (ex. driver, and video ram) and then try with your new settings....you should be able just to type xf86config at the prompt to initialize the setup...
