Help me to start applications faster on Fedora Core 6

Hello to all LQ members, I have a problem in Fedora Core 6. My System hardware is enough to run FC6 smoothly (Intel 3.0Ghz, 512 MB RAM, 200GB Hard Drive). The problem is that when i add a default gateway in FC6 the applications starts very slowly but when i delete the route (gateway) or disable the network interface for just checking the applications startup performance then the applications starts quickly.

How can i prevent this problem.
Please post the answer of this question as soon as possible.

It is possibly a DNS error. Do you have your /etc/hosts file and /etc/resolv.conf files correctly configured? /etc/hosts should include pointing to localhost etc., and /etc/resolv.conf should have the IP addresses of your DNS name server(s).

Slowness in application launch can be caused by poor DNS performance.
