If your system starts without a graphic interface, then you have somehow turned off the graphical login during installation, I guess. Even so, you can start a graphical user interface, if you have X, Gnome and KDE installed.
You need to login on the login shell by typing your username, and then also your password. When logged in, run:
startx
That's it, unless you have some other issues, not mentioned in your posting.
