Help Me Migrate to Linux PLEASE (Jabber, Exchange, VPN)

I am trying to get my laptop to do everything it could do when it was Windows.

1. Jabber Client (connect to corporate server to include conference rooms)
2. Outlook Exchange (Corporate does not have OWA installed and I really like using the calendar feature so not sure I can get away with IMAP. Maybe need to look into spending some money on crossover)
3. Cisco VPN Client (I realize they bundled this up good and tight, but I am hoping to find a way to get the settings somehow and use a Linux app so I can do everything my windows XPee machine did)

(I am running SuSE 9.1 Professional.)

Well, most of that should be fairly easy to accomplish.

1. There are LOTS of good jabber clients for Linux. My personal favorite is GAIM (http://gaim.sf.net). Another good client is PSI (http://psi.affinix.com).

2. Connecting to an Exchange Server might be possible with the free Microsoft Exchange connector that can be used with Novell/GNOME Evolution. Information on this is availible here.

3. Cisco does make a Linux version of their VPN Client. But, it can be hard to get a hold of. You might want to talk to your network administrator to obtain a copy. One thing to remember is that it is Console-based (no Graphic Interface at all). So, it may take a little getting use to.

Hope that helps. ;)

Thank you for your suggestions...

I agree with you in that Gaim is one of the nicest Linux clients to use for Jabber... issue is that the new version 1.0.2 doesn't work and I believe it's because it doesn't support SSL. The Gaim client that works in our corporate network happens to the version that is coming out with SuSE 9.2 (Gaim version 0.82.1-3) which I can't find anywhere and who wants to wait for 9.2 to come out in November. That same version even worked with our corporate conference rooms.

I tried an exchange connector with evolution, but it "appears" you need to have OWA enabled on the Exchange server (which in our corporate world we don't) Has anyone had luck with the connector when OWA is not enabled?

I'll look for the VPN Client still.. thanks for the info. I really don't mind if it doesn't have a graphical interface, just as long as it connects.

I'm getting a 404 Not Found with that link. Care to try again? ;)

I tried the Gaim client v1.0.1 (their newest client) and no luck. But I did try the other suggestion "psi" and was able to get that working. psi's website didn't have any easy way of installing it, but after some research I found the two rpm's needed to get this up and running.

the second download for SuSE is for SSL support (which I needed).

As for exchange in Linux, can someone tell me some more suggestions on getting my SuSE 9.1 up and running, actually talking with Exchange 2000/2003 without OWA enabled. (I don't want to use IMAP which only "downloads" the calendar, contacts and email)
