what is the key combination for the EOF character on the terminal?

my terminal does not respond to ctrl+d ....i am running a code which takes its input from the user and stores the input in a text file.can u please tell me any alternative key combinations as this one is not working....

If you are running a program that inputs from the terminal, then ctrl-D is the end of file marker. Typically you would have to enter the ctrl-D on a new line.

If this doesn't work, then perhaps there is a problem in the code. Does it work when redirecting input from a file?

I'm assuming you are using a bash shell under linux?

If you are taking input from the terminal and just redirecting it to a file, then Ctrl-D will be the end of file marker and it will mark the end of your input.
