how do I change a file from read only to read & write?

Hi coolyus57, and welcome to LQ.

You use the chmod command (see man chmod or e.g. http://www.tldp.org/LDP/GNU-Linux-To...html/x9543.htm). However, permissions are divided up into user, group and others - you don't say which of these you want to change. Can you tell us more about what you are trying to do?

Just a quick note - it's better to give a more meaningful title to your threads (and you can still change it). "Help me" isn't very useful, whereas something like "How do I change a file to read/write?" would be better.

I would like to have only emails from those people onmy contact list. I am just a homeowner.

block emails (addresses) as they come in within your Email provider page in settings somewhere or mark everyone but them you want as spam - look in your settings in that email provider page and see if you can find what you want in there to do.
