Help,Mandrake and I raped my MBR!!!

I installed Mandrake but dont want it anymore, but I accidently chose to have it autostart X now its the king of my boot record and it wont let me install any thing else.I installed slackware and when I threw the bootdisk in it said THIS IS NOT A BOOT DISK!!!,I know damn well nothing is wrong with the disk becuase I made several and they all say that!Mandrake came with a program called mbrestore but I dont know how to use it,it wants me to put in a disk, which disk?Any help would be appreciated and people if you dont know what your doing and your installing Linux of any sort dont get high until its finished not even a couple tokes this leads to problems that smarter people WILL have to bail you out of!Have mercy on me please!

if you want to wipe out the MBR due to problems.. you can fdisk /MBR to get rid and wipe out the MBR.. you can usually use a win98 bootup disk to get to the prompt to issue the command...

OK your the second one to tell me that so let me make sure I understand what I need to do.I throw in my winders boot disk, the same one I used to install,at the prompt type fdisk/MBR and Im good to go or does this just wipe it clean for me to work with? Also can you suggest a good site where I can learn a little about how the MBR works, and finally would this work in the case of a boot record virus?

yeah, from a c;\ prompt. yuo'll need to know you've definitely got fdisk on your floppy, if not it should be at c:\windows\command\

and remember the space... fdisk /mbr.

it write the MBR with the Win9x record. you'll boot straight to windows on reboot
