HELP! Lost the dual boot!
 

I hope someone can help me instantly. I had Linux installed (redhat 7.1) and the system was able to boot into this Lilo thing, where i could choose between linux and dos. Now I lost this choosing option and I can only run linux. Even using a startup disk for win98 doesn't work. It hangs on the word "LIL-" . Can anyone help em to get the possibility back to get into win98. It's on a separate disk and I need to store the date on a cd before i can fully switch to linux. The win98 disk is not accessible, whatever I try.

Did you create a linux boot disk when you installed? If so boot from that into linux, and check out your /etc/lilo.conf file. see if dos is still there, if it is, su to root and type lilo and it should reload lilo to the mbr.

Windows on a seperate disk: You might be able to just take the linux hard drive out and put your windows hard drive by its self on the first IDE controller as master and try booting up the computer.

OK, thanks for the info. With the boot disk I am now able to get into linux and to mount my windows drive. Still, when I boot-up without the diskette, I see "LIL-" and the system hangs. So I don't get into X. I tried to copy the files on my windows disk to the linux disk, but it gives an error. I am really new into linux, so maybe i give the wrong command for copying the entire tree of files.

I also checked the /etc/lilo.conf, and that one looks ok. To me, it looks like there is something wrong with booting-up. The computer tries to start the lilo prog, but fails to run it. Any sugestions!!!!!

Did you try typing lilo as root to reload lilo to the master boot record?
