Help Installing Vector Linux

Ok. Here's my problem. I am trying to install vector linux 4.0 on a P233mhz, 2GB harddrive, 32megs RAM. I formated the harddrive from a c prompt.

Then I booted up the cd and went through the make partitions. I made the linux partition /dev/hda 1882MB and the swap partition 128MB /dev/hda2. 2010MB total. Then I rebooted and went into the install. It verified that there were no errors with the installation file on the cd.

The installation asked what file system i would like to make it. I chose ext3. Then it asked me where to make that. I typed /dev/hda1 then it said it formatted /dev/hda1 to the linux file system and /dev/hda2 for the swap partition.

It entered the installation and got to 1% in the installation and then the screen went black and it keeps scrolling like ... could not mkdir ... /usr/bin no such dir ... so on and so forth for every file it tried to install.

am i not creating the linux partition correctly or telling where to install the linux file system correctly, i dont know. I am pretty new to linux.

please help i dont want to run win98se on that machine i would really like to get into using linux.

Probably hardware related. Vector is using the newer kernel and l suspect that it can't detect your old hardware. With only 32M of ram maybe Damn Small or puppy linux would work?
