HELP installing SCIENTIFIC LINUX
 

hello, i am new to linux, i have installed the Ubuntu version before and it was easy, ScientLinux is also easy to install in graphic mode but i have a problem with it; when i put the CD and reboot it starts with the first screen as normal, when i press enter for entering in graphic mode, it continue loading drivers for several minutes, espacially with AHCIdriver (i don't know what it is), then it continue, and when i go to the next page, it shows a table that requires to specify where the driver to install is; i select the CDROOM , and it says that no driver is there (this is anormal i think), then i try all the remaining one by one and i can't do nothing. But in VMware i can install it as normally. Can anyone help me please?! I have Athlon dual core 1.9 Ghz - 64 bit, 1 Mega Cache 3Giga RAM, 160 HDD,

The driver you need is not on the install CD. However, VMWare uses different hardware emulation, so it has a different driver that it uses. You need to find out which hardware the driver is needed for, and then find which module supports that hardware. Finally, you need to load the module from the command prompt on the installation CD. Scientific linux is getting pretty old, I think; like three years old. It might not have a new enough kernel to have the correct modules you need for your machine.

actually i downloaded the latest SL 5.3, but probabely it had problems, so i installed Ubuntu(the latest edition also), but i have a wireless problem with it now, it doesent recognise my wireless driver, i have tried to use the windows driver by using the method with the .inf file but it still doesent work, do u know another way to install this driver?
