Help Installing Back Track 5 (Problems with Wifi and GUI)

I have never installed Linux before. I have used Puppy Linux, Ubuntu, and Back Track off of a USB.

I tried installing Back Track on an old desktop (dual boot), but I am running into problems.

The first, when I type "startx" I get a "fatal server error: no screens found"
After this I found a solution that had me type "nvidia-xconfig" , but my computer says "not found". I have no ethernet cable because I just moved, so I can not update or upgrade, and there is no wireless capability because I do not have the drivers for the 2Wire wireless adapter the desktop uses.

Is there a way to solve this without using an ethernet cable?

I can't help you with your problem directly, but have you tried Kali Linux? It's the successor of BackTrack. See the announcements in their blog.

Is Kali Linux Right For You?

As the distribution developers, one would likely expect us to recommend that everyone use Kali Linux. The fact of the matter is however, that Kali is a Linux distribution specifically geared towards professional penetration testing and security auditing and as such, it is NOT a recommended distribution for those unfamiliar with Linux.

In addition, misuse of security tools within your network, particularly without permission, may cause irreparable damage and result in significant consequences.
If you are looking for a Linux distribution to learn the basics of Linux and need a good starting point, Kali Linux is not the ideal distribution for you. You may want to begin with Ubuntu or Debian instead.
