Help initialize IDE CD burner under RH 9

Hello, I am a newbie in Linux world.
1) I am finding problem to setup the burner properly in my desktop pc. The IDE Samsung CD writer works fine in MS Windows 98 or XP & also gets identified under Red Hat 9. But as I try to burn(with Gnome Toaster 1), the following lines are shown in the terminal: error tryin to open /dev/scd0 exclusively, & the process terminates. It also informs that scsi driver not found.
2) I have no problem in reading CD, but then I can't find any option to view the previous sessions of a CD.
These 2 problems need to get sorted as early as possible. Plz help....
