Help im so new i have a headache

Hey guys im new to the forum and new to linux, you can call me J. Any ways im trying to do things and ive been reading so much my head hurts and I hate taking asprin. This is what im trying. LFS. ok so i have two hard drives 60 and 20 im using vm ware and trying to creat a partion on my other drive. well its not going well at all. I think my main problem is that i dont know where to begin. Im a bit new to gettin indepth with computers. So what i have done is used VMware and formatted and while playing vmware it askes to insert boot disk well i got one off the net. Im using winRaR that may be the problem i suppose why it does not work. do i need to get bunzip or tar? am i correct in even asking that? searching the forum even adds more of an ache seeing how you ask questions i dont even understand the words to. heck i cant read english all that well and im american. so any ways. Can someone help me in gettin this started. i would Love to learn as much as i can but seeing how i have know idea where to begin that is the problem im not asking for someone to tell me just a hint on a path i can choose. Im trying my best but my best is freakin pissin me off. So any help i would be thankful.
thanks
J

Why linux from scratch? If you're new to linux why don't you try a distro that is easier like mandrake. You'll probably have less headaches and then you can move on to LFS once you learn mandrake

Mepis

mepis.org

Live evaluation CD which is studpid-silly to install to the hard drive. Autodetection....great support. Debian-based (kpacakage, synaptic, apt-get).
