ok ok here it goes i am a windows person ve always heard of linux so i downloaded a copy of red hat 9.0 pro
spec on my pc asrock k7vm2-r3 mb
althon xp1800
768mb ddr pc 2100 ram
lite on burner and also dvd rom
g forcce 4 64 ddr v card
soundblaster adugiy s card
amr modem (came with the mb )
now here what going on linux is not see ing my modem when i click on add modem i say " no nodem found "
also when i try to burn a cd i make an iso on my hard drive pls help me
and linux see the lite on burner it says "cdrw"
most winmodems won't work with linux... you can check out linmodems.org and see if there is hope for your particular model, but i wouldn't get my hopes up too high...

if you look in windows device manager or in linux run
cat /proc/pci|more
you might can spot the chipset on the riser modem, then look on the table at
linmodems to see if someone has hacked a driver or not.
if not, quit looking. either buy a different modem or give up immediately.

what method are you using to burn cds??? are you using mkisofs and cdrecord???
you might want to post the output of these:
cdrecord -scanbus
cat /etc/fstab
ok thankz will check out for my modem but sorry friend u speaking greek to me i am u r basic windows person now learning linux
as to record i inserted a blank disc and a window open up i drag and drop files and when i click write to cd a box comes up and i cant change the location only going to /dev/home i think as for the version i have dont know came with red hat 9.0
although i cant do any thing but play games on linux I LOVE IT better than windows is there a easier way to learn linux pls advise

one of the most confusing things to new linux users is the many many ways to
accomplish any task. so, you'll need to tell what program you are using, and what
you tried to click, and any error messages you got. there are dozens of cd burning
programs for linux, but they are mostly frontends to mkisofs and cdrecord.
mkisofs makes an iso image, and cdrecord puts it on the disk.
