Help I'm stuck in TWM?
I'm running Blag (FC1) and it had an twm desktop option, so I wanted to explore and clicked on it. Now I'm stuck and don't know how to get back, I can open an xterm but what to type I have no idea. Please help, I've been running Linux for about 3 months and it seems to be getting harder and harder.

Ctrl-Alt-Backspace will kill the x server but you should be able to click on the desktop, go down to the bottom of the menu, and exit or switch to another wm.
-- But twm's great. Why would you want to leave? :) |
I don't know how to do anything with TWM, can't see games, controls, nothing... It's a blank blue screen and I just see a few commands when I click the left mouse button, Am I missing something?
|
Hm. Supposed to be the gray weave on the background - in other words, nothing, by default - and twm actually has most of its stuff on the left mouse button IIRC so the exit should be there, but try the other menu if not.
But I was joking - with a *lot* of tweaking, twm can be okay but most people find it radically deficient. It was fantastic in 1985. :) Like I say, if all else fails you should be able to kill the server. -- Yeah. Just fired it up on another vt. Just left-click and 'exit' is the last menu entry. Should be all there is to it. |
Okay, I got the exit down, I'm not too smart but that's one thing I learned young in case I was in a burning building. I do that, it allows me to log back in but goes right to twm again, not gnome.
HELP!!!!! |
Uh oh. You're using a session manager/graphical logon aren't you? Sorry, I don't recall how to change that. Should be a simple matter of changing the option on the login screen. At worst, I suppose you could su to root and switch runlevel and try to straighten it out from there, but maybe a session manager wiz can help out.
If you're using a good ol' ~/.xinitrc, that's an easy fix. |
Just FYI, you can kill the login manager like so...
(open xterm) # su (log in as root) # killall gdm (or kdm, depending on which is installed) ... which will bring you back to the console. |
TWM login
Same problem here. Using Fedora Core 3 and can't seem to get back into gnome. I have even uninstalled and re-installed gnome-desktop.
I have only default session and failsafe session at the session graphical login screen. ( if that makes sense). I don't have an option for gnome login............at least I don't think I ever had one. PLEASE HELP |
