Help getting ICQ to work please.

I have just tried to set up an ICQ account with the provided wizard. It didn't work.
So I went to the ICQ website and registered. I entered the number with which I was issued into the wizard setup box, along with my password. It acknowledged that this was successful.
But ICQ still did not work.
At the bottom of the ICQ box it initially says I'm Offline, so I tried to change this to Online. It then tries but fails:-
Looking at the Licq Network Log it gives some information:

{UDP} Requseting logon (#2339)...
[UDP] Resloving
[UDP]ICQ server found at 204.188...etc etc
[UDP] Creating local server
[UDP]Opening socket to server
[WRN]Timed out after 10 seconds (#2339) retry 1 of 6...

It retries 6 time, then times out with:

[WRN]Timed Out (#2339)
[UDP[ Logging Off

I tried turning off the firewall, but that made no difference.

(LYCORIS / AMD 1900XP / Ethernet Card connected to Router connected to ADSL line.)

Any suggestion please??!

maybe try using one of the other chat programs that support icq
gaim will do it as will kopete
this will determine whether the problem is the program or other settings

i've had problems with licq before (not like this though) but have
found kopete and gaim to be completely reliable
