Help! GDM has gone mad!

Please help!

My GDM has gone mad!

When GDM greeter appears, I enter a user name and then press enter.

Then the password field appears.

As soon as I press the first keystroke for the password, the screen goes blank and then I the GDM re appears in a different mode, again asking for the password.

I enter the user name once more, and then as soon as I press a key in an attempt to enter the password, the screen goes blank and back to the user name again.

GDM has gone mad!

Has nayone seen this before? What is wrong with it?

Edit:

I have found that it is something to do with a setting in GDM and it is font related, still not fully fixed yet, but I am on the right track thus far.

It has something to do with the circles that can be set to appear when the password is typed.

I can login now, however the font that is used when I enter the username and password at the login prompt is tiny.

Does anybody know what font is used here? and how to configure it.

Should be in the gdm config file.

I didn't see anything font related in gdm.conf file, there is a lot of stuff in there and it is cramped with no line feeds to separate things so its a hard read. but I will take another look this evening, probaly past it into Gedit and read right through over a coffee.

It's very odd, I copied some fonts to the "freefonts" dir in desparate attempt to add fonts and thats when this funny thing occured with GDM.

I dont understand why adding fonts can cause GDM to do this. If GDM was set to Font A, why would adding Font B change anything?

Does anybody know what the 100% correct and most effective procedure is for adding fonts in Ubuntu Breezy? I tried a bunch of ideas I read throughout many forums and none of them seemed to work.
