Help for wine installation on Ubuntu 8.04LTS

i've download wine-1.1.5 and save it on usb stick. Make directory with mkdir /home/uym("mylogin name")/Downloads and Transfer the wine-1.1.5.tar .bz2 to it.Give command from terminal tar -xjvf ~/Downloads/wine-1.1.5.tar.bz2 and give command cd wine-1.1.5 and enter to this directory. When i give ./configure it returns as foll:
checking build system type ... i686-pc-linux-gnulibc1
checking host system type ... i686-pc-linux-gnulibc1
checking whether make sets $(MAKE) ... yes
checking for gcc ... gcc
checking for C compiler default outputfile name ...
configure : error : C compiler cannot create executables
See 'config.log' for more details.

i search 'config.log' in directory wine-1.1.5 and read the lines and found in it these lines:
configure : 2623 : $?=0
configure : 2630 : gcc -V>&5
gcc : '-V' option must have argument
configure : 2633 : $?=1
/usr/bin/ld : crtl.o : no such file : No such file or directory
collect 2 : ld returned 1 exit status

and found in logfile the lines:
configure : 2731 : error : C compiler cannot create executables
see 'config.log' for more details

and at the end of file the line:
configure : exit 77

Pls somebody help me to install wine correctly.

Are you connected to the internet? If you are, you don't really need to compile anything.
