Unhappy HElP for intall programs

Well all my life I always work with Windows but a week's ago the curiosity of using another OS come to me so I downloaded the ISO's for RH 9.0 but now I want to install some programs and I don't know how to do this, sorry for my ignorance but like i tell before I was totally new for linux i will be glad for your help.

Find .rpm packages for your system, double click them, maybe need the root account password (dont log in as root for normal use).

If you installed the distro you are all set to download and install software. If you need help actually installing the system from an iso file then check out (I think it's .org.. could be .com ). You can find software packages at and Also make sure you download the correct version and arch for your system otherwise you'll get conflicts. If you get "Failed dependencies" don't panic.. it happens alot, you just need to find and download the "dependent" rpm's to satisfy these "failed dependencies". Sometimes you have to install several at the same time because one will need another so use:
rpm -ivh (then each of the rpm's with a space between them)
-ivh is to install and -uvh is to upgrade. Wishing you the best of luck and don't worry about asking questions.. nobody was born a *nix expert
