Help editing xf86config

Hi,
Started using linux a month or 2 back. I'll get to the point. Glxinfo sais im using Agp 1x. Im using a Radeon 9000 and want to use 4x. I know the command I need to use Option "AgpMode" "4" but when I try to edit the file (xf86config) in etc/x11 it sais read-only and to add ! to override but i cant save the added line. Im sure this is a common problem for new users I tried different searches on google and here for a while but didnt find my simple answer. Forgot to add im using Redhat 9 and I have all the text writers (like emacs and all the others that come with redhat) but none let me save. Thanks in advance.

Im new also, very new, but what I have been reading, to make changes you must be logged in as root user I belive, Im not sure, like I said im new.so it might be 99.9% that im wrong.

Fast reply time. I was trying to edit it without the prompt. Im not sure how I would edit it from the command line . I only know a few commands (su,cd,sh,./)

Thanks guys. I was able to edit it and save graphically as the root. I knew it had to be something simple I was over looking. Bye

use "pico" to edit from cmd line. you might want to try vim later on.
