Help Dual Booting win7 and Kali
 

Thank you for reading! I have a slight issue that I can't seem to find a solution to. Maybe you can help!

I have been using this guide and it's really simple and easy to follow. However there's an issue that comes up in the end that I can't find a solution to. Once I'm done creating all the partitions in the install, I get a warning pop up about there being no /efi partition.

On the second image down in the guide where it shows his partitions in Windows Disk Management, I have something SLIGHTLY different. The 100MB partition on his, where it says Healthy(EFI Sy... Mine doesn't say that at all. My 100MB partition in that window is NTFS and says ' Healthy (System, Active, Primary...

Now, the guide is supposed to be for UEFI Bios, which I have. My mobo is a z77-HD3. Is it safe to just bypass this warning during the install of Kali? From what I've read, it's not.

Ok, I tried in the Kali install partitioning phase to change that 100MB partition's 'Use as' to EFI.
It writes all the partitions that way but in the end I get a new error about there not being a /efi/boot
????

Can anyone point me in the direction to solve my issue?
I can boot into Live just fine, but I really want to dual boot so I can d/l the drivers and things i need. I've already partitioned the space I need.

Is there maybe more information I can provide to help someone help me?

Posting detailed information on your specific system would be useful which you can do by getting either the boot repair iso and putting it on flash drive and then booting it and selecting the option to Create BootInfo Summary. Don't make any changes or try to repair. Post the output or a link to the output here.

You could also go to the site below and download and run the bootinfoscript from a Linux Live CD/flash drive and post the output, a results.txt file here. Pretty much the same as the boot repair.

If you have windows 7 installed, is it using UEFI or BIOS/MBR? If using UEFI, you should already have an efi partition with the windows files on it. Combining the two generally results in one or both systems being unbootable or other major problems. Posting the bootinfoscript output should give this info.

I believe the EFI partition has to be fat, not ntfs. I don't have a lot of experience with EFI, but when I installed OpenSUSE Tumbleweed on a new laptop recently I laid out the partitioning by hand, and when I went to apply it it came up with a big warning that I needed a FAT EFI partition or it wouldn't be able to boot, so I let it auto-configure the partition and then continued on with the install. Looking at gparted on my working system, the partition it created is 156 MB fat16 mounted at /boot/efi.

Yes, I'm using Win7 with UEFI bios, but that 100mb partition on here is ntfs instead of fat. Is there any way to change that without reformatting my whole PC?
Actually, my windows disk management screen doesn't give a format type for that partition.
Like I said, On the kali install during the partitioning phase, i can click it and change 'use as' to EFI, but then I get an error about no /boot/efi
My 900GB partition with all my stuff on it is NTFS

Only shrink the Windows volume where the core system lies, do not shrink the recovery/healthy partition.

Use the guided partition wizard with Kali to install in the free unallocated space.

The Kali Grub should write correctly to the existing MBR for Windows in this instance.

Edit the Grub menu of Kali if it doesn't boot post installation.
