Question help dual booting mint 17.1


tried installing linux mint on a partition that i created. it keeps saying no root file system is defined, please correct from partition menu. any help would be great. cheers

Are you still in the Mint installer? It sounds to me like you are not setting a partition to be used for root. IIRC you need to right click under where it says "Mount Point" on the line for the partition that you created and when the options list shows up, use " / " . Else, you could try creating the partition again in the installer and watch for the option to "Set Mount Point" and again set the root mount point to " / "
